Default Windows 7 - copy / duplicate a user contour

In WinXP, information technology'southward adequately straightfoward to copy / indistinguishable a user profile using Command Panel > System > Advanced tab, User Profiles section, Settings via the "Re-create To" push. Unfortunately, in Windows 7, the "Copy To" button is just active when the Default contour is highlighted. Later on searching around quite a scrap, I was able to find a way to copy / indistinguishable a Windows 7 user profile using the WinXP approach. I've only copied Admin level user profile to Admin level user profile but I call up 1 tin can also re-create Standard level user profile to Standard level user profile if one is logged into an Admin level contour while doing the copy/duplicate. I'1000 going to outline the steps--looks more than involved and daunting than it actually is to exercise--but I've besides created a PDF which I've attached.

Windows 7 - How to Copy / Duplicate an Existing User Profile

Note1:
Many online search results will lead you to a Microsoft folio on repairing a corrupt profile but this approach does a (subversive) move of the originating user profile data which essentially destroys that contour (only the AppData\Local folder remains in the originating user profile) then the approach outlined on the Microsoft corrupt profile repair folio is NOT recommended.

Notation 2:
To use the procedures outlined below, y'all will need at least 3 user profiles :

1. The originatinguserprofile –the re-create-from user contour
two. The receivinguserprofile–the copy-to user contour (see section: II Preliminary 2 Create a New User ccount/Contour)
3. The workinguserprofile–the user contour from which yous do the copying (see section: 2 Preliminary ii Create a New User Business relationship/Profile)

I. Preliminary ane - Windows Enabler (gratis):

Note:
This little app will allow you to "activate" (un-grey) the "Copy To" button in Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Advanced tab > User Profiles

1. Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage Another Account > Create New Account
2. Enter the new user profile proper noun, select the user account blazon and the user picture–this will exist our receivinguserprofile.
Notation: This process of copy/duplicating has been done only from Admin level user profile to Admin level user profile and while it should work from Standard level to Standard level, that has not been tested..
3. Reboot and log in to the new user account to initialize it

iv.

Repeat Steps 1-3 if you lot need to create another new user account to use every bit the workinguserprofile.

3. Copy/Duplicate Existing User Profile:

Notation: Equally noted above, for the copy/indistinguishable procedure to work yous must accept at least 3 user accounts . Yous must exist logged in to the workinguserprofile to perform the copy/duplicate process. In other words, y'all cannot be logged in to the user contour from which ( originatinguserprofile) you wish to copy/indistinguishable or the user profile to which ( receivinguserprofile) yous are copying/duplicating.

ix.
Click on the the "Copy To" button ONCE and it becomes active (no longer greyed out)

12.
In the "Permitted to Use" department of the "Copy To" window:

xiii.
Click on the Windows Enabler icon in the Notification expanse and the "ON" will disappear (effectively, you've turned Windows Enabler off)

14.
Reboot and login to newly copied user profile ( receivinguserprofile). The desktop icons, desktop colour and other settings should exist identical to the user profile you copied from ( originatinguserprofile).

The but exception to the copy/duplicate is C:\Users\ receivinguserprofile\AppData\Local (where receivinguserprofile is the user contour yous copied to) which does not appear to be copied from your original (copied from, originatinguserprofile) user contour in the process.

If there are any applications which load in your original (copied from, originatinguserprofile) user profile from AppData\Local, you lot may need to log in to your workinguserprofile so manually copy the advisable AppData\Local subfolders from your original (copied from, originatinguserprofile) user profile to the AppData\Local in the new (copied to, receivinguserprofile) user profile. My Datacolor Spyder3Elite monitor calibration load-at-startup application needed to be copied from my original (copied from, originatinguserprofile) user profile AppData\Local\ to my new (copied to, receivinguserprofile) user profile AppData\Local\
